If you live in the UK like me there is two big problems currently in your life, the appalling Summer weather and the fact that the UK’s most popular show Love Island has now ended. There is now a massive hole in our lives but luckily our favourite streaming service has our back. Netflix is filled with some of the best shows, some you will know about and some you won’t. This article will share with you the best of the very best that Netflix has to offer.
Making A Murderer
If you haven’t heard of Making A Murderer then where have you been? Making A Murderer became instantly popular after it’s release in December 2015 and for good reason. The show is fantastic.
The documentary is spread across 10 episodes and follows the story of Steven Avery, the man who served 18 years in prison for a wrongful conviction of sexual assault, after his exoneration he was set to win $36 million before being arrested for the murder of Teresa Halbach.
Making A Murderer is as entertaining as it is frustrating, watch it and you’ll know exactly what we mean.
We couldn’t have made a list of the best Netflix has to offer without this classic. Prison Break was born in 2005 and has continued it’s success ever since with a successful re-launch in May 2017.
Michael Scofield is a brilliant structural engineer who sacrifices it all to help his brother escape from prison. The first season of Prison Break is to many the best TV series of all time. Whilst the following seasons may not compare, Prison Break continues to be dramatic and gripping throughout the remaining 4 seasons.
If you love your TV fast paced and action packed, then look no further than the legendary Prison Break.
Power is arguably the hottest programme going right now and most certainly Netflix’s hottest show. Power is currently in it’s 4th season and it’s insanely addictive.
The show follows the story of James St Patrick, a drug dealer looking to leave that life behind him and start up as a clean businessman. On his path to a new life there are twists and turns at every corner that threaten him and everyone he loves.
Power keeps on going from strength to strength and doesn’t look like slowing down. The show is incredibly popular for a reason and that’s because it’s a 10/10 when it comes to entertainment.
Rick and Morty
Unlike some cartoons these days Rick and Morty is as unique as it is weird. But the weirdness and unique style makes it totally refreshing.
The series follows the misadventures of alcoholic scientist Rick and his overly nervous grandson Morty, who split their time between domestic family life and intergalactic travel.
The show has a 9.3 rating on IMDb , compare that to Family Guy which has an 8.2. The episodes are only 20 minutes long, so if you are someone who is fed up of the usual cartoons which all share similarities then you should try Rick and Morty.
The first season of the series is set in the 1980s, Stranger Things follows the disappearance of a young boy and the monstrous chain of events it launches in the small town.
Everything about Stranger Things is fantastic, the way it properly taps in to the theme of the 80s with it’s music and costumes, Winona Ryder’s amazing emotional performances and the unique storyline.
If you’re a fan of thrilling drama’s then Stranger Things will fill your time for a whole day, as it’s addictive and you’ll have no problems finishing it quickly.
Narcos is all about the story of Pablo Escobar and his drug trafficking empire. Even if you’re familiar with his story Narcos is 100% worth your time because this Netflix Original is absolutely electrifying.
Narcos is well executed as it recounts Escobar’s story. It is based on fact but is dramatic enough to have you gripped.
Even if you don’t have an interest is Escobar’s story, we highly recommend you watch Narcos.
13 Reasons Why
13 Reasons Why has been Netflix’s most popular show so far in 2017. It has become so popular Netflix has already sanctioned a second season. Whilst it may be controversial as some have claimed the show glorifies suicide and may well lead to copycats there is no doubting that it is a fascinating story.
13 Reasons Why is based on the book by Jay Asher. After Hannah Baker committed suicide, she left 13 tapes which tell the reasons why she took her own life. Her best friend Clay Jensen listens to the tape as he picks up the pieces that Hannah left behind.
13 Reasons Why is a gripping and meaningful tale. The show is masterful and there’s no doubt that you will get sucked in to it’s story.
Spider-Man, Iron Man and Thor are all examples of Marvel’s Hollywood giants, but what about the little guys? Luckily, we have Netflix.
Daredevil is an action series that follows the journey of attorney Matt Murdock, who in a tragic accident was blinded as a boy but was blessed with extraordinary senses. He fights against injustice as a respected lawyer by day and masked vigilante at night.
Daredevil is arguably the strongest of all of Netflix’s Marvel seasons, with two solid seasons in the books.
The second season with the Punisher is particularly enjoyable. Daredevil is a must see for fans of Superhero shows and movies.
Peaky Blinders is a gangster family epic set in Birmingham, England in 1919, just after the First World War. The story centres on the Romani/Irish Peaky Blinders gang and their ambitious and highly cunning boss Tommy Shelby.
The attention to detail, the costumes, the sets, have all been created to the highest standard. And the quality of acting is also of the highest standard with the likes of Tom Hardy, Sam Neil and Cillian Murphy.
The storyline is fantastic with some amazing dramatic moments. I would recommend it for all fans of Victorian dramas and historical fiction.
Why not save the best till last. Breaking Bad is possibly the best TV show ever, it’s at least in the conversation.
Chemistry teacher Walter White is diagnosed with untreatable lung cancer and to make sure his family is financially secure, he teams up with a former student Jesse Pinkman and turns to a life of crime to make and distribute the purest crystal meth on the streets.
Bryan Cranston’s performance as Walter White is in my opinion one of the greatest acting performances ever, if you have seen it or if you intend to, you will understand what I mean.
Breaking Bad is an emotional rollercoaster. It may not be for everyone but if you love your TV and enjoy perfection then Breaking Bad is the show for you.
We are well aware that some absolute dynamite TV shows were left off this list such as Sherlock, House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, Dexter, American Horror Story, Glow, The Office and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. But we tried to create a list of different programmes from different genres that will satisfy all different tastes in TV.
